Introduction
The African Islands States(AIS) are part of the Small Island Developing States (SIDS). SIDS including AIS is a distinct group of developing countries, recognized by the United Nations since 1992 as a special case for both their development and environment. AIS include countries such as Equatorial Guinea, Cabo Verde, Seychelles, Sao Tome e Principe, Comoros, Guinea Bissau, Madagascar, Mauritius, and Tanzania. AIS regions face major challenges when it comes to significant barriers related to accessing finance, cost of capital, market readiness, upskilling and reskilling workforces needed for a just, inclusive and resilient energy transition.
These states are vulnerable to adverse impacts of climate change particularly the increasingly frequent and extreme weather phenomena which represent the gravest of threats to the survival and viability of their people, natural ecosystems, and overall sustainable development.
Who We Are
We are business operators, climate change, energy, development and policy experts, working together with States, businesses, institutions and civil society stakeholders across African Islands States, to leverage partnerships, develop resilient businesses, climate and energy infrastructures in the AIS, in order to improve the resiliency of the population, encourage and promote economic development. AiBC actively sorts and obtains support from some governments, institutions and private sector globally and in the AIS regions to proactively identify and address these challenges.
